Construction History
It was laid down on February 22, 1951 in Nikolaev , at the Nikolaev N I.Nosenko Shipyard , factory number 385. Launched on November 29, 1951 , on August 9, 1954, a naval flag was raised on the cruiser, enlisted in the Red Banner Black Sea Fleet by order of the Minister of Defense of the USSR of January 31, 1955 .
Service
Visited Romania in 1955, Split ( Yugoslavia ) in 1956 and 1964, Durres ( Albania ) in 1956 and 1957, to Varna ( Bulgaria ) in 1964, to Algeria in 1968. In June 1967, he was in the zone of military operations, performed the combat mission of assisting the armed forces of Egypt , and from August 1 to December 31, 1968 - the armed forces of Syria .
During the explosion of the battleship " Novorossiysk " "Mikhail Kutuzov" was the closest ship to the battleship. Of the 93 people of the rescue team sent from the cruiser to assist the crew of the Novorossiysk, 27 sailors were killed.
In 1961, on the cruiser, the shooting of the film “ Landfall ” was filmed. According to the memoirs of Vladimir Vysotsky , who played an episodic role in the film and spent a month on the cruiser, in the same year Yury Gagarin visited “Kutuzov” [2] .
In 1987 he was transferred to the Navy reserve. Excluded from the Navy on July 3, 1992, was laid up in Sevastopol, the authorities considered the question of creating a museum on it or selling it for scrap. August 23-25, 2001 was relocated to Novorossiysk and became part of the Novorossiysk naval base , military unit 99005.
July 28, 2002, on the Day of the Navy, was opened as a ship-museum.
From the beginning of the first hike, 211900 miles traveled and completed 15 long-distance sea trips.

Current usage
The base station of the MTS company is located on the cruiser, which provides high-quality radio signals in the city center and on the territory of the sea port, where city-wide celebrations, parades and concerts take place [3] . Also, the cruiser is open to the museum. There are paid excursions. The questions about the museification and repair of the cruiser [4] . In 2014, it is planned to repair the cruiser at the Novorossiysk ship repair plant [5] . In 2014, after the annexation of the Crimea, a group of veterans living in Sevastopol, who served on the cruiser at different times, took the initiative to transfer the ship back to Sevastopol.
On Victory Day on May 9, 2016 in Novorossiysk, according to the plan of the organizers of this event, the cruiser “Mikhail Kutuzov” will make an artillery salute during a military parade [6] .
Closed for repairs in 2018, the end of repairs - by 2020 [7] . In mid-July, the cruiser stands in the port of Novorossiysk and successfully receives tourist excursions from around the world.
