William Jennings Sheffield Jr. (born June 26, 1928) is an American democratic politician who was the fifth governor in Alaska from 1982 to 1986.

Leaving the post of governor, Sheffield served as chairman of the board of directors of the Alaska Railway from 1985 to 1997. In 1997, he was appointed President and CEO of the railway, where he worked until 2001. [2] As of 2008, he remains in this company as deputy chairman of the board of directors. [3]
