Morphology
Fruit bodies are usually fleshy, large or medium in size, covered with mucus .
The cap is convex, very sticky, whitish or gray, connected to the leg with a mucous-cobwebial private veil, forming on it a mucous, subsequently obscure ring.
The plates are thick, dull, waxy, rare, fork-branched, initially light, grayish or purplish-brown, later blackening.
The spores are dark brown, almost black, fusiform in mass.
Two genera are most famous - Mokruha ( Gomphidius ) and Hroogomfus ( Chroogomphus ). All species of these genera are mycorrhiza with coniferous trees, which determines their range. Researchers have described about 20 species of the family, of which up to eight are found in Russia. Mushrooms of all types of Gomphidiaceae are edible , but of poor quality.
