Biography
Leo Tikhovsky was born in the family of a colonel. On April 10 (22), 1789, a Cossack entered military service. In September of the same year, during the Russo-Turkish War, he participated in the assault and capture of the castle of Hadzhibey , and the next month he was already made a coronet . Also that year, he took part in the capture of the Akkerman fortress on October 27 ( November 7 ) and the Bender fortress on November 4 (15) . December 11 (22), 1790 participated in the assault on Ishmael . In May 1791 he was promoted to the rank of Yesaul . In 1796, Tikhovsky took part in the Persian campaign .
Later Tikhovsky served for a long time on the Black Sea cordon line . He participated in numerous battles with the Zakuban Circassians (Circassians) both on the border and in campaigns ( reprisals ) against them. In October 1804, Tikhovsky received a gold watch as a reward from the hands of Emperor Alexander I for distinction in the battle of Nagoya. On February 3 (15), 1809, Tikhovsky was promoted to military colonel. At that time, the commander of the 4th cavalry regiment of the Black Sea. He was appointed head of the Olginsky cordon, which was part of the 3rd part of the Black Sea cordon line .
On January 18 (30), 1810, about 4 thousand Circassians invaded Russian borders near the Olginsky post. Despite the large number of the enemy who passed his post in order to destroy precisely the Cossack villages, Tikhovsky with two hundred Cossacks and one 3-pound cannon left the cordon and attacked the highlanders himself. Within 4 hours Tikhovsky with his detachment held back a significant part of them. Only after the Cossacks ran out of ammunition, "the Highlanders crushed their small mass Cossack squad . " Tikhovsky himself, like almost his entire detachment, was chopped off by the mountaineers, who after that went back beyond the Kuban .
