GDR National People's Army Guard
This article is about the style of trousers. For the general who invented this style, see Ghalif, Gaston.
Galliffe (from Fr. Galliffet ) - trousers that fit the lower legs and greatly expanding on the hips . The Russian name for the trousers is given by the name of the French general Gaston Halif (1830-1909), who introduced them for cavalrymen . Later breeches were borrowed by other armies. In the 1980s, jodhpurs entered the women's fashion, and in the 2000s into the men's fashion.
In fact, only in Russian are these trousers called by the name of General Halif. In French, they are simply called culotte bouffante (slouch pants).
