New Swedish movement

The New Swedish movement ( Swede. Nysvenska rörelsen [1] ) is a de facto non-existent organization that adhered to the ideologies of fascism, corporatism and ethnic-nationalism.

History

On October 28, 1930 , a student association called Det Nya Sverige (New Sweden) was founded by seven students from Uppsala , including Per Engdahl and Dagmar Soderberg, [2] . The association was the forerunner and subsequently developed into the Novoshvedsk movement. “New Sweden” called its ideology “nysvenskhet” (“Novo-Swedish”) [3] , thereby renouncing both fascism and National Socialism , as they opposed dictatorship and believed that Sweden was not suitable for importing foreign ideologies, since historically in a special way, and against national conservatism, since the organization’s goal was to develop towards corporatism and “the constant development of the Swedish tradition” [3] . Many members of New Sweden, such as Bengt Petri and Birgit Rode, later held high posts in Sweden [4] .

Gradually, the New Swedish movement entrenched in Malmö [5] . In 1932, the newspaper Vägen Framåt (The Way Forward) began to be published. In 1937, the New Swedish Movement merged with the National Union of Sweden, but already in 1941 the new organization broke up into two old ones. In the same year, Per Engdahl published an open letter to the government, in which he called for solidarity with Finland and closer relations with Germany. Then Per Engdahl founded the organization “Svensk opposition” (“Swedish opposition”) which also adhered to the ideology of “new Swedish”. According to state. archive of Sweden, in 1941, the organization consisted of 8632 people [6] . After World War II, the organization helped refugees from occupied Germany to prevent their extradition to the USSR .

Famous Members

  • Ingvar Kamprad (1926–2018) - founder of the IKEA furniture store chain. He was a member of the organization in the 40s. [7]
