French Island is a coastal island in Victoria, Australia . Inhabited - about a hundred residents, some of them live permanently. Tourism infrastructure for the needs of ecological tourism, post office, one general store. On the island there is one national park, in the nearby waters another.

History
Discovered and named in April 1802 by the French expedition. In the 1880s, koalas were introduced here. Already in the 20th century, prisoners were kept on the island for some time. Then it was planned to build a nuclear power plant , which did not take place.
Nature
This island is one of two places in the state where there is no invasive species - the fox. This fact has a beneficial effect on the local rare fauna.
Transport
The island is connected to the mainland by passenger ferries that do not transport cars. There are private runways for light aircraft. On the island itself there are about 40 km of gravel roads.
