Asian Pacific Curling Championship 2016

The 2016 Asian-Pacific Curling Championship was held in Yison, South Korea, from 5 to 12 November 2016 for both men's and women's teams. In the men's and women's tournaments, 9 men's and 8 women's teams took part ( Taiwan only put on the men's team).

In the men's tournament, the Japanese team became the champion (for the third time in its history), having won the Chinese national team in the final; the third place was taken by the national team of the Republic of Korea , having won in the match for the bronze medal the national team of Taiwan (for the first time left for the playoff stage). In the women's tournament, the team of the Republic of Korea became the champion (for the 4th time in its history), having won the Chinese national team in the final; the third place was taken by the Japanese team , having won the match for the bronze medal against the team of New Zealand . [2]

The championship was also a qualification for the 2017 Men's and Women's World Championships. Two best men's teams and two best women's teams received qualifications; respectively, it received the men's teams of Japan and China , as well as women's teams of the Republic of Korea and Japan (the women's team of China received an automatic qualification for the World Cup, since it will be held in Beijing , the capital of China ).

For the first time in the championship (and in general in international curling tournaments held under the auspices of the World Curling Federation ), the Qatari men's and women's teams as well as the Hong Kong women's team took part.

Tournament Format

Teams play between themselves in a circular system (that is, each with each) in one circle. The winners of the first four places go to the playoffs , where they play in the semifinals (1st team from the 4th, 2nd team from the 3rd). The winners of the semi-finals play 1st and 2nd place, the losers in the semi-finals play in the consolation final for 3rd and 4th place.

The start time of matches is indicated in UTC + 9 [3] .
