Non- Mendelian inheritance - types of inheritance in eukaryotes that are not described by Mendel’s laws . Non-Mendelian inheritance is characteristic of imprinted genes ; for characters encoded by genes located in the cytoplasmic elements of heredity ( mitochondrial DNA and chloroplast DNA ); for polygenic characters, that is, determined by the interaction of several genes [1] . Non-Mendelian inheritance also arises due to paramutations , meiotic drive , gene conversion , expansion of microsatellite repeats , infection with various agents (for example, prion proteins) and other processes. Non-Mendelian inheritance is characteristic of some hereditary diseases in humans [2] .
