Biography
The Luga clan takes its official beginning in 1956 . A couple of three-year-old giraffes were brought from South Africa that year. They were called Boy and Juliet. Meadows - the granddaughter of the Boy and Juliet. The giraffe got its name in honor of the city of Luga [4] [5] .
By 2016, Luga became the mother of seven giraffes, among her children - Samson Hamletovich Leningrad . Almost all of her children were distributed to different zoos, and only her daughter, Sophia, remained with her mother. Luga has a playful character - she loved to beg for food from visitors, and sometimes she hooliganized. Despite her advanced age, she looked and felt good. According to the zoo employee:
| Meadows loves to beg for food from visitors. He approaches people, lowers his head. The fence is low, and visitors feed it. It’s good if they give me an apple or carrot. Many, without thinking about the consequences, feed the giraffe with chips or gingerbread cookies, and after all, just a couple of gingerbread cookies can cause severe stomach problems in a herbivore [4] . |
In 2014, the zoo brightly celebrated the 33rd anniversary of Luga [6] . November 4, 2016 at the zoo was a celebration in honor of the 35th anniversary of the hero of the day. Interactive games were offered to visitors, as well as life features of giraffes in the zoo [7] .
On February 15, 2017, the Luga giraffe died at the 36th year of life [8] .
