History
It was founded in the second half of the 18th century . From an extract from the Rostov archive: “On May 15, 1777, according to a report from the field march, Aleksey Abramov, the military chancellery ordered the detective foreman asking him to consider the place he needed to build a farm on the Shiriai if it does not interfere with anyone. To build a farm. ” Another document mentions that in 1837 the Shiryaevsky farm numbered 28 yards. [2] . The farm belonged to the yurt of the village of Starogrigoryevskaya of the Second Don Don Region of the Don Army (until 1870 - the Land of the Don Army). According to the List of populated areas of the Earth, the Don Troops of the 1862 edition in 1859, 324 male and 278 female souls lived on the Shiriai farm [3] . By the end of the 19th century, the farm became the largest settlement in the yurt of the Starogrigoryevskaya village. According to the census of the Russian Empire in 1897, the Shiriai farm (aka Pletnev) was inhabited by: 1171 men and 1286 women, of whom 464 were literate men, 86 were literate women [4] .
To date, there are two versions of the origin of the name of the farm: by the name of the Cossack Shiryaev and by the name of the river Shirya. According to the historical background of the Shiryaevsky rural settlement, the word Shiryai has several meanings: field, breadth, space; translated from Tatar - "mighty" [2] .
According to the Alphabetical List of the Populated Areas of the Don Don Region, 1915, 1695 male and 1754 female souls lived on the farm, the farm had a farm board, a church, a school, a credit partnership [5] .
In 1921, as part of the Second Don district, it was included in the Tsaritsyn province [6] . Since 1928 - as part of the Ilovlinsky district of the Stalingrad district (the district was liquidated in 1930) of the Lower Volga region (since 1934 - the Stalingrad region ). Since 1935 - as part of the Solodchinsky district [7] of the Stalingrad Territory (since 1936 - the Stalingrad Region, since 1961 - the Volgograd Region).
During the Battle of Stalingrad, the Shiryaevsky farm was used to store military goods - equipment and food. Here military formations were formed before being sent to the war zone. The inhabitants of the farm in 1941 were sent to the construction of defensive lines. The farm housed 3 military hospitals. The deceased in hospitals were buried in a mass grave located in a local cemetery. In 1943, at the end of hostilities, a wooden obelisk crowned with a red star was erected on the mass grave of the farm [2] .
In 1963, the Solodchinsky district was abolished, the farm was transferred to the Frolovsky District [8] . In 1965 it was included in the Ilovlinsky district [9] [10] .
