After crossing the Schwarzald gorge, Moreau met with Karl, and, under the pressure of the latter, the French were forced to abandon their positions and retreat [1] . And although the French lost the Battle of Emmendingen, they managed to cross the Rhine on October 28. This ended the great retreat of General Moreau through the Schwarzald gorge.
