Story

Poloter Ivan Ivanovich Karetnikov lived for his own pleasure and changed wives without thinking about tomorrow. Having lived to sixty, he himself for the first time found himself in an unenviable position, when another young wife of his own self left him, right at the River Station . Without changing his life principle, Karetnikov immediately tries famously to woo the unfamiliar girl, but the attempt is futile. And now some kindly compassionate old woman herself hints to him that she would not mind marrying him, old man, in marriage. Then Ivan finally realizes how necessary a real family is for him. And then he decides to visit his former wives and children, scattered throughout the Soviet Union, in the hope of someone of them to stay and settle.

Having met his eldest daughter, he draws serious conclusions, critically evaluating his life. As they say, better late than never ...
