Demene ( Latvian: Demene ) - a settlement in the Daugavpils region of Latvia . The administrative center of Demen parish . It is located near the lakes Brigenes, Demene and Akmenkas. The distance to the city of Daugavpils is about 18 km [3] . According to data for 2015, 299 people lived in the village [4] . There is a volost administration, a cultural center, a library, a family doctor's practice, a post office, a grocery store, and Catholic and Lutheran churches.

History
The village is located on the site of the former estate of Demmen.
In 1944, during the Great Patriotic War, the headquarters of the 215th Infantry Division, which was transferred from Leningrad, was here.
In Soviet times, the settlement was the center of the Demensky village council of the Daugavpils region . In the village was the collective farm "Friendship" [3] .
