Characteristics
White solid with phenol odor [1] . The half-life relative to hydrolysis , depending on the pH from 89 (pH 5) to 132 days (pH 9), half-life under the action of photolysis for more than 100 days at pH values 5-9 [3] .
Use
Azimsulfuron is used as an active ingredient in plant protection products [2] . The mechanism of action is based on the inhibition of the enzyme acetolactate synthase involved in the biosynthesis of branched essential amino acids ( valine , leucine , isoleucine ). Inhibition of this enzyme leads to the cessation of cell division and plant growth. It is absorbed mainly through the leaves and buds and to a lesser extent through the roots. It is used after emergence of seedlings in rice fields against various annual weeds [3] . Azimsulfuron was introduced to the market in 1996 by DuPont [4] .
Toxicology
Azimsulfuron has a low acute toxicity to mammals . No mutagenic, carcinogenic or reproductive toxic effects were found in animal studies. The World Health Organization believes that with the proper use of azimsulfuron should not expect serious danger.
Azimsulfuron is very toxic to some aquatic organisms, in particular green algae . In combination with a long half-life, this herbicide is classified as very toxic to aquatic organisms. May cause harmful long-term effects in the aquatic environment.
