The 58th USSR Weightlifting Championship was held from July 22 to July 31, 1983 at the Izmailovo universal sports complex in Moscow . 155 athletes took part in it, who were divided into 10 weight categories and competed in biathlon ( jerk and push ). The tournament was held in parallel with weightlifting competitions at the VIII Spartakiad of the Peoples of the USSR , in which, in addition to Soviet athletes, representatives of 20 foreign countries participated.
