Scientific Contribution
Authors of more than 150 scientific works, including 18 books, among which 5 monographs . By virtue of the general concept of Soviet historiography in the first decades - the exposure of the colonial policy of the autocracy, the main body of research by the scientist was devoted to the study of the forcible subjugation of the peoples of the Caucasus. The consequence of this was the publication of works on the history of the Abkhaz, Ossetian and Balkarian peoples in the 19th century. In the fundamental work “Russia and the Caucasus in the First Third of the XIX Century” he showed the importance of the Caucasus problem in the system of foreign policy of Russia, the attitude of various layers of Russian society to this problem and the participation of the peoples of the Caucasus in its solution. "Essays on the economic development of the Steppe Ciscaucasia in the pre-reform period" for the first time in historical literature examined the economic development of the region in the context of the struggle of feudal-serf and bourgeois trends in socio-economic development, which was of great importance for explaining the features of the genesis of capitalism in the southern outskirts of Russia.
Another vector of the historian's scientific interests was the military-patriotic theme. In the popular science book “The Patriotic War of 1812” he outlined the events, revealed the moral and political superiority of the Russian army and noted the significance of the victory of Russia in this war for the further history of Europe and Asia.
The book “Feat of Odessa” withstood three editions - 1958, 1960, 1963. The book “Heroes of Lesser Earth” devoted the feat of heroes who defended the bridgehead near Novorossiysk in 1943. The last significant contribution to the development of historical science was the participation in the publication of the multi-volume “History of the USSR from ancient times to the present day” - the head of the sector of the pre-October period. About 40 articles by the historian were included in the TSB.
