Afanasyev, Boris Ignatievich

Boris Ignatievich Afanasyev ( January 13, 1920 , the city of Mstislavl of the Mogilyov region of the BSSR - 1992 ) was a Soviet conductor . People's Artist of the RSFSR ( 1971 ).

Biography

He studied at the Minsk musical technical school. Graduated from the Belarusian State Conservatory as a violinist soloist ( 1947 ). He started his creative career as a concertmaster of the orchestra of the Belarusian Drama Theater, in which, with a short break, he worked from 1934 to 1943. After being evacuated in the city of Tomsk , he organized an orchestra , a string quartet , and traveled to the front with a concert brigade. In the autumn of 1943, he organized the Belarusian State Quartet, which he performed in the liberated cities of Belarus. In 1944 , he participated in the organization of the Symphony Orchestra of the BSSR by 1950 , he was his accompanist (at the same time with the leadership of the quartet). In 1950-1953 artistic director of the Belarusian State Philharmonic . In 1953-1960 he was the conductor of the symphonic orchestra of the philharmonic. He taught at the Belarusian Conservatory.

Since 1960 - conductor of the Perm Opera and Ballet Theater, in 1962 - 1976 .. - Chief Conductor. He conducted symphony concerts of the Perm Philharmonic. He moved to Ukraine and headed the Odessa Opera and Ballet Theater . The stage version of the opera-ballet “Viy” by V. S. Gubarenko , a significant contribution to the creation of which in this theater was made by Boris Afanasyev, was nominated for the USSR State Prize . After that, he was the principal conductor of the Dnepropetrovsk Opera and Ballet Theater .
