Biography
Maria Baklakova was born on March 14, 1997 in the city of Tchaikovsky in the Perm Region . She grew up in a sports family, her mother Elena Yurevna was an athlete at one time, and her father Valery Veniaminovich was engaged in skiing . She began to actively engage in swimming at the age of five, along with her older brother Ivan and sister Ekaterina , who later also became quite famous swimmers. She was trained at the local sports club "Dolphin" under the guidance of coach Lyudmila Aleksandrovna Malysheva, later she joined the Dynamo sports and athletic society.
For the first time she joined the Russian national team in 2010 at the age of thirteen, a year later she made her debut in international competitions - at the Olympic Youth Festival in Turkey she won gold medals in five different disciplines: 200 m, 400 m, mixed relay 4 × 200 m, 4 × 100 m, combined relay race 4 × 100 m. In 2012, she won the All-Russian Championship among juniors in the 100-meter freestyle, setting the country's youth record, then at the Russian adult championship she won bronze in the 200-meter swimming ters freestyle relay and 4 × 200 meters. Having been on the Junior European Championships in Antwerp, brought from the five gold medals won in different disciplines.
Thanks to a series of successful performances, Baklakova won the right to defend the honor of the country at the Summer Olympic Games in London , started here in the 4 × 200 meter freestyle relay race with her partners Elena Sokolova , Veronika Popova and Daria Belyakina - in the preliminary qualification race, they finished last but not seventh and thereby break into the final stage, settling down in the final protocol of the competition on the fifteenth line.
After the London Olympics, Maria Baklakova remained in the main team of the Russian national team and continued to take part in major international competitions. So, in 2013, she was again the best in five different disciplines at the Junior European Championship in Polish Poznan, while she took gold, silver and two bronzes at the Junior World Championship in Dubai. She performed at the adult World Aquatics Championships in Barcelona : she started in the relay 4 × 100 m and 4 × 200 m freestyle, but could not get into the number of winners here. For outstanding sports achievements she was awarded the honorary title " Master of Sports of Russia of the international class ."
Due to a serious back injury, she was forced to miss several seasons and returned to sports only in 2016 [1] .
In August 2017, at the Universiade in Taipei, Maria Baklakova won the “gold” in the 4 × 200 meter freestyle relay race and the “silver” in the 4 × 100 meter relay race.
