Predatory species, hunts for small species of soil arthropods . The species was first described in 1869 by Italian Mirmecologist Carlo Emery ( C. Emery ) based on materials from Italy [4] under the original name Epitritus argiolus Emery, 1869 [5] . Since 1998, it was included in the genus Strumigenys (Baroni Urbani, 1998), in 1999–2007 it was included in the genus Pyramica (Bolton, 1999) and since 2007, again in the genus Strumigenys (Baroni Urbani & De Andrade, 2007) [6] [ 7] . The species is included in the Strumigenys argiola-complex from the species group Strumigenys argiola group together with 6 East-Palearctic and Oriental species ( Strumigenys hexamera , Strumigenys hirashimai , Strumigenys lachesis , Strumigenys sinensis , Strumigenys tisiphone ), but they have 6- seaters , Strumigenys lachesis , Strumigenys sinensis , Strumigenys tisiphone , 6-quintuple species, Strumigenys lachesis , Strumigenys sinensis , Strumigenys tisiphone , 6-quintuple species. sometimes the 2nd and 3rd segments of the flagellum are reduced in S. lachesis ), and not 4-segments as in argiola ; all these species also have less than 4 preapical teeth on each mandible and have dense orbicular pubescence on the promesonotal dorsum [4] .
