Faoborg ( Dat. Faaborg, Fåborg ) is a city in Denmark on the south coast of Funen . The administrative center of the municipality of Phoborg-Mittfun (region South Denmark ). Population 7.234 ( 2006 ).

About the city
The first time Phoborg was mentioned in a document in the library of the National Archives in Paris , dated June 25, 1229 . It was a castle at that time and was probably founded earlier. In 2004 , the city celebrated its 775th anniversary. Near Phoborg are the Egeskov castle ( dates Egeskov Slot ), the Hvedholm castle ( dates Hvedholm Slot ) and the Horne church ( dates Horne Kirke ).
Municipality
The municipality of Phoborg-Mittfün was created as part of the Danish administrative reform of 2007 as a result of the merger of the former municipalities of Broby ( dates Broby ), Ringe ( dates Ringe ), Orslev ( dates Årslev ), Ryusling ( dates Ryslinge ) and Phoborg. Area 638 km 2 , population 51.612 ( 2007 ).
