Biography

Born on August 26, 1888 in a village of Mangush, Mariupol district, Yekaterinoslav province, in a peasant family. After graduating from a two-year rural school, he entered the Mariupol gymnasium. In 1905, for his participation in the strike movement, students were expelled from it, later passed exams externally and in 1909 entered the Novorossiysk University at the Faculty of Medicine.

He participated in the revolutionary activities of the Socialist Revolutionary Party , for which he was expelled from the university and expelled from Odessa .

In 1910 he entered the faculty of law of Kharkov University . In 1912, for participating in a strike of protest against the execution of workers in the Lena gold mines , he was dismissed from the university, arrested and deported from the province. He lived in the Caucasus . In 1914 he graduated from the university as an external student, having received the profession of lawyer .

In August 1915 A.P. Fedorov was called up for military service and sent to study at the Alexander Military School in Moscow . In 1916, he was given the rank of ensign and enlisted in the 5th Siberian Regiment in Turkestan .

While serving in the army, A.P. Fedorov conducted revolutionary work among the soldiers, was a member of the regimental soldiers' committee. In 1917, he sided with the revolution and took an active part in it.

With the arrival of the White Guards in Turkestan A.P. Fedorov was arrested, but dismissed due to a serious illness. He was treated in Essentuki , where he took part in the work of an underground communist group.

At the end of August 1919 he was arrested by Denikin’s counterintelligence on charges of having ties to the Bolsheviks . The White Guard court sentenced him to be shot, but at the end of December of that year, according to the “Denikin’s manifesto,” he was pardoned and sent to the guard company in Vladikavkaz . In January 1920, he fled under the guise of a coachman to Tiflis , where he joined the secret service of the Special Division of the 10th Army.

From 1920 to 1922 A.P. Fedorov worked as an authorized person in the Caucasus, and then as the head of the department of the Special Department of the Batumi fortified area. In 1922, he was sent to Tiflis, and then to Kutaisi to the post of head of the Transcaucasian NK branch.

In 1922, A.P. Fedorov, as a security officer who had extensive experience, was transferred to the central office of the Cheka, where he first worked as a secret officer abroad, and then as the head of the counterintelligence department. In this position he remained until 1933.

In 1922, A.P. Fedorov, as the head of the KRO of the Cheka, was tasked with curbing the activities of the Union of Defense of the Homeland and Freedom, headed by B. Savinkov . In the operation “Syndicate-2”, developed under the leadership of F. E. Dzerzhinsky , he was assigned one of the main roles.

Speaking as a leader, he was legendary by the Chekists of the counter-revolutionary organization “Liberal Democrats”, A. P. Fedorov repeatedly traveled to Paris to B. Savinkov, met with activists of his organization, as well as with British intelligence S. Reilly . While in Poland , he also met with intelligence officers of the General Staff of this country, whom he supplied with specially prepared disinformation materials.

In this operation A.P. Fedorov showed exceptional courage, endurance, resourcefulness and self-control. He passed several checks, including at gunpoint, which was arranged for him by Pavinkovsky, Savinkov’s closest assistant.

Thanks to the professional experience of A.P. Fedorov, the Chekists managed to persuade B. Savinkov and his closest employees to come to the USSR .

For the successful completion of the difficult task of the OGPU on September 5, 1924 A.P. Fedorov was awarded the Order of the Red Banner . The OGPU board awarded him the title of “Honorary Chekist”.

From 1933 to 1937 he worked as the head of the intelligence department of the Office of the NKVD of Leningrad and the Leningrad Region .

In 1937, on a false accusation of Trotskyist activity, he was arrested and sentenced to death.

In 1956, A.P. Fedorov was rehabilitated posthumously.
