Dressing (architecture)

Dressing is the way brick is laid. It is made in order to strengthen the brick structure. Bricks are laid in different ways (dressings) - ends (pokes) or sides (spoons). Nowadays, the walls are laid out with a continuous spoon dressing. But there are other, more expressive methods of masonry. Alternating tykovo and spoon masonry was used in the Middle Ages, and in the XVII century. was supplanted by the Flemish dressing.
