Sandor Bali ( Hungarian. Bali Sándor ; January 18, 1923, Tolna (municipality) - January 2, 1982, Budapest ) - Hungarian worker, active participant in the anti-communist Hungarian uprising of 1956 , deputy chairman of the Central Workers' Council. Worker
Born in a large family of a rural day laborer. After graduating from elementary school, he became a day laborer himself. In 1946 he moved to Budapest . He worked as a tool fitter at the Beloyannis factory.
Sandor Bali was a leader in production, participated in the Stakhanov movement . He was considered one of the best tool makers of Hungary . Member of the ruling Communist Party of Hungary - Hungarian Workers Party [1]
Rebel activist
In October 1956, Sandor Bali strongly supported the anti-communist Hungarian uprising . Participated in Budapest demonstrations. In November, he was elected deputy chairman of the Central Working Council (CDC) [2]
Together with the Chairman of the Central Executive Committee, Sandor Ratz, Sandor Bali organized inter-factory cooperation and the defense of Budapest factories from government and Soviet troops. He acted from the position of workers' self-government [3] . He participated in negotiations with the authorities and the Soviet command.
On December 11, 1956, Rat and Bali were invited to the parliament building for a meeting of working activists with Janos Kadar . There they were both arrested [4] .
Prisoner and Dissident
The court sentenced Sandor Bali to 12 years in prison (Sandor Rat received a life sentence). Both were freed under an amnesty in 1963 .
Sandor Bali worked at an electric lamp factory. He maintained contacts with Sandor Raz and other members of the Hungarian dissident movement. However, the years of imprisonment greatly undermined his health, and this affected public activity.
Sandor Bali died at the age of 58. Several hundred people attended the funeral, including prominent dissidents, including the future president of Hungary, Arpad Gönz .
Memory
After the dismantling of the communist regime in Hungary, measures were taken to perpetuate the name of Sandor Bali. A memorial plaque was installed in Budapest in 2007, and in 2009 one of the streets of the Hungarian capital was named after Sandor Bali. Commemorative events are held regularly.
In 2006, on the occasion of the 50th anniversary of the uprising, a film about the events of 1956, Csapataink harcban álltak , was shot with the participation of the grandson of Sandor Bali, Sandor Bali Jr. Our troops fought [5] [6] , which reflected the role of Sandor Bali.
Family
The wife of Sandor Bali - Sandorne Bali - was a like-minded and ally of her husband. She also actively participated in the Hungarian uprising and the movement of labor councils. She died in 2010 [7] .
