They live in the provinces of Ontario , Saskatchewan , Manitoba and the mountains in eastern Tennessee . It inhabits deciduous and mixed forests.
Plumage brown. Breast white, spotted back. The iris is yellow. Bill is black. The paws are light brown and densely feathered, which gave the name the Foot- Footed Owl .
First described by Johann Gmelin in 1788.
