Biography
In 1911 he graduated from high school in the city of Priluki .
Member of the October Revolution of 1917. During the Civil War, he commanded a partisan detachment in Ukraine.
In the cinema - since 1924. First he tries himself in the acting profession, works as an assistant director. Later, he himself becomes a director, writes scripts.
In 1928 he directed the movie “Five Minutes” according to his own script, co-authored with A. Balachik. He wrote the script for the film “Black Sail” (also called “Five Minutes That Shook the World”) (jointly with B. Feldman, 1929); as an actor, starred in the role of the second diplomatic courier in the film " Bag of the diplomatic courier " (1927).
After 1930, he left the cinema, was engaged exclusively in literary activity.
Translated into Russian the works of classics of Ukrainian and Belarusian literature (Golden Eagles; drama in five acts (based on the novel by I. Franko “ Zakhar Berkut ”, “There is no translation for the Cossack family, or Mamai and Fire-Molodits” A. Ilchenko , “Nightingale Land "V. Bolshak and others).
He wrote under the pseudonym George Shipov.
He was buried in Moscow at the Novodevichy cemetery.
His wife was the actress of the Moscow Art Theater A.M.Dmokhovskaya . Director and screenwriter Yu. A. Zhelyabuzhsky was buried in the same grave with his wife and his wife.
