Gilgamesh and Heavenly Bull - the conventional name for the Sumerian song created before the XXVIII century BC. e. [1] . The main characters of the song are Gilgamesh and Enkidu . The song is included in the cycle of Akkado-Sumerian poems about Gilgamesh. Part of this song was later translated into Akkadian and inserted into the Epic of Gilgamesh .
Content
Story
In content, this song is close to table VI of The Epic of Gilgamesh, although it differs greatly in style [1] . It consists of a little over a hundred lines [2] .
The plot is based on the love of the goddess Innin ( Innan ) for the hero Gilgamesh. However, Gilgamesh confounded the goddess, in revenge she sent to the hero of the monstrous Heavenly Bull. In the battle, Gilgamesh and his slave Enkidu killed a bull, after which they dismembered his body, separating his head, skin, heart and horns [1] [2] .
Research
The full text of the song was first published only in the 1990s. There are many copies containing different fragments. The creation of one copy is dated by the Third dynasty of Ur , the other copies are Old Babylonian [2] .
