Graduated from Moscow Institute of Fine Arts. M.V. Lomonosov, where he studied in 1966-72.
From 1972 to 1989 he worked at the Institute of Organoelement Compounds of the USSR Academy of Sciences .
Since 1990, Head of the Laboratory of Enzyme Engineering at the Bioengineering Center of the Russian Academy of Sciences. In 1996-8. Visiting Professor at Compiegne University (France).
In 2000, on his initiative, the Russian Chitin Society was created, of which he is now the president. Member of the European Chitin Society.
He also heads the Biotechnology Section of Chitin and Chitosan at the Scientific Council of the Russian Academy of Sciences for Biotechnology.
Member of the Editorial Board of the journal “Applied Biochemistry and Microbiology”.
Under his leadership, 8 theses were defended.
In 1976 he defended his thesis “Immobilized Nucleases of Actinomycetes”. In 1994, specializing in biotechnology, he defended his doctoral dissertation "Chromatographic isolation of hydrolases (nucleases, phosphatases, chitinases) and their use in biotechnological processes."
