European Curling Championship 2016

The 42nd European Curling Championships in groups “A” and “B” was held from 18 to 26 November 2016 in Renfrushir ( Scotland ) with the participation of 26 men's and 20 women's national teams. The champion title for men for the 10th time in its history and for the 3rd time in a row was won by the Swedish team , for women - for the 4th time in its history and for the 2nd time in a row by the Russian team .

According to the results of the tournament, 7 strongest men's teams qualified for participation in the 2017 World Championships . 7 best women's teams received vouchers to participate in the 2017 World Championships . One more place in the world championships received the winners of the qualifying series - the play-offs between those who took 8th place in group A and 1st place in group B (11th in the general classification).

The championship in group “C” was held in Ljubljana ( Slovenia ) from April 25 to May 1, 2016. The two best teams for men and women in the same year will participate in tournaments of group “B”.

Braehead arena

The European Championships were held in the Braehead Arena , a multifunctional indoor sports arena located in Renfrew , Renfrewshire County.

The arena opened in 1999 and has a capacity of 5,200 spectators. It is used for various sports competitions and concerts. Currently serving as a home arena for the Brahid Clan and Paisley Pirates hockey clubs.

In April 2000, Braehead Arena hosted the World Curling Championships for men and women .

The teams of Norway, Switzerland, and Russia are ranked for 2nd, 3rd, 4th places according to the results of personal meetings (Norway - 2 wins, Switzerland defeated Russia).

Team Denmark in the next championship is eliminated in group B.

The teams of Austria and Finland, with 8th place after the group stage with equal results, go to a tie-break , the loser in which at the next European Championship in 2017 is eliminated in group B, and the winner plays the qualifying match with the winner of group B for the eighth ticket to World Cup 2017 . The Italian team, having the same performance with the two teams in personal meetings (1 victory), ranked 7th by the best indicator in the preliminary test throws into the house (Italy - 37.24 cm, Finland - 48.47 cm , Austria - 82.58 cm).

World Challenge Games qualification

The Austrian national team, which took the 8th place and did not get a direct qualification for the 2017 World Championships , played a ticket to the World Championship in the series of butt games up to two victories with the winner of Group B - the Netherlands national team.
