George Peter Pelekanos ( Greek Τζωρτζ Πίτερ Πελεκάνος , born February 18, 1957 , Washington , DC , USA ) is a recognized contemporary American writer , novelist , film and television producer, screenwriter and journalist of Greek origin. He writes mainly in the detective genre . The actions of the works of Pelekanos take place mainly in his hometown of Washington. He actively participated in writing the script for the third season of the HBO television police drama “ Listen ”, as well as all five seasons of the drama television series “ Tremei ”. A great admirer of the writings of Pelekanos is Barack Obama . [1] [2] [3]

The early years
Born February 18, 1957 in Washington , DC , in a Greek family. George's parents are from Sparta ( Peloponnese , Greece ). [1] He worked as a cook , dishwasher, bartender , and also a seller of women's shoes. [2] At the age of 11, he began working as a delivery clerk in the diner of his father, a World War II veteran.
He graduated from the University of Maryland at College Park .
In 1992, the writer’s first novel was published.
Career
Novelist
Pelekanos' early novels were written in the first person , Greek Nick Stefanos, a resident of the District of Columbia, once a private investigator .
Following the success of his first four novels, Pelekanos significantly changed the style of the narrative by creating The Capital Quartet (a free translation of the English DC Quartet ), which is often compared to the Los Angeles Quartet by James Ellroy . Leading a third-person narrative , Pelekanos transferred Stefanos to the category of a secondary character and presented to the reader his first “ black and white ” team of crime fighters, Greek Dimitri Carras and black Markus Clay.

Stephen King , assessing the writings of Pelekanos, said the following:
