Church of the Transfiguration in the Star City

The Church of the Transfiguration of Our Lord was founded on August 4, 2008, on the Day of Equal to the Apostles Mary Magdalene. The architectural design of the temple was developed by Rodion Islamov. The temple is a wooden church, 39 meters high, 212 m² in area, made in the Old Russian style from Angarsk pine and cedar, without supporting columns. The base of the Temple is octagonal. The iconostasis is 15 meters high, made of cedar. The building is crowned with thirteen blue chapters: they symbolize the Savior and his 12 apostles. Outwardly, the temple resembles a rocket directed at the sky. On both sides at the entrance to the temple on the memorial plaques are written the names of the astronauts ^[1] .

On November 28, 2010, the church was consecrated by His Holiness Patriarch Kirill and received a new status - the Patriarchal Compound of the Church of the Transfiguration of the Lord with the nourishment of the Holy Trinity St. Sergius Lavra .

Since 2006, Rector of the Church of the Transfiguration of the Lord in the Star City Igumen Job (Talats Victor Stepanovich). As a resident of the Holy Trinity St. Sergius Lavra, he blesses all crews flying into space ^[2] .

On the Soyuz MS-02 spaceship, a particle of the relics of St. Seraphim of Sarov was delivered to the ISS . The shrine was transferred with the blessing of His Holiness Patriarch of Moscow and All Russia Kirill . According to the representative of the diocese - after the end of the flight, after 173 days, a part of the relics will be transferred to the Church of the Transfiguration of the Lord in the Star City for permanent residence and worship of believers ^[3] .
