Biography

She was born on May 4, 1919 in the village of Rogozov, Pereyaslavsky Uyezd, Poltava Province . In the 30s, four collective farms were created in Rogozov : “Five-Year Plan”, “named after Kosior”, “October”, “named after Shevchenko”. Upon graduation in 1937, "excellent" secondary school A. S. Sokol entered the Kiev University. T. G. Shevchenko at the Faculty of Geology and Geography. But in October 1937 he was expelled from the university and the Komsomol as "the daughter of an enemy of the people." At that time, her father, the chairman of the Borispol district department of the land, was sentenced to death (rehabilitated posthumously in 1958). In the summer of 1938, Alexandra Semenovna wrote a letter addressed to Stalin, in which she spoke about an unfair court decision and, referring to the constitutional right to education, asked for an opportunity to study further. I read the "leader of the people" of that letter, it is unknown. But the fact that she was not arrested or subjected to other harassment seems incredible. In August 1938, at a meeting of the bureau of the district committee of the Komsomol, the Komsomol ticket was returned to her and restored at the university. However, Alexandra Semyonovna refused further studies at the university and finally decided to become a doctor. Perhaps this decision was influenced by childhood memories of his grandfather - the only medical assistant in the whole district. As many years ago, Alexandra Semyonovna herself wrote in her autobiography, she consciously chose the profession of a doctor, which determined her future destiny for life.

In 1938, A.S. Sokol entered the Kiev Medical Institute (KMI) . She studied enthusiastically. As a student, she began to be interested in scientific research. Since 1940, while studying at the Department of Microbiology , she enthusiastically attended the evening classes of the student scientific circle, led by the outstanding scientist, the founder of Russian virology, the famous microbiologist, professor Sergey Stepanovich Dyachenko (5.10.1898 - 01.22.1992), who was an extraordinary person with immense horizons.

During World War II she continued her studies in evacuation in Chelyabinsk . She was released as part of the Faculty of Medicine for a reduced training period in 1942, when Alexandra Semenovna received a diploma with honors. She was left in graduate school, but she refused this opportunity and, together with other graduates of the institute, voluntarily went to the front. It was called up by the Soviet RVC in Chelyabinsk in August 1942. In the army since September 8, 1942. As the commander of the sanitary company of the 1321st Infantry Brest Regiment of the 415th Infantry Mozyr Red Banner Division, he went the battle route to Berlin . Member of the CPSU (b) since October 1943. She was awarded the military rank of captain of the medical service. Was wounded. She ended the war as chief medical officer of the camp for repatriated Soviet citizens in Germany .

After being demobilized from the ranks of the Soviet Army in January 1946, V.S. Sokol returned to the Kiev Medical Institute (KMI) . From 1946 to 1949 she studied at the graduate school at the Department of Infectious Diseases under the guidance of Professor Anatoly Matveevich Zyukov. In 1949 she defended her thesis on the topic: "Blood transfusion as a method of treating typhoid fever" for the degree of candidate of medical sciences . From 1949 to 1951 she worked as a junior researcher at the Institute of Infectious Diseases of the Academy of Medical Sciences of the USSR; from 1951 to 1953 - assistant of the department of infectious diseases of the KMI. From 1953 to 1962, she headed the Department of Infectious Diseases of the Chernivtsi Medical Institute (HMI) . In 1954, she was awarded the academic title of Associate Professor . In 1956 she defended her doctoral dissertation "Features of the action of certain cardiovascular drugs in infectious patients" at the Institute of Infectious Diseases of the Academy of Medical Sciences of the USSR in Kiev, in 1959 she was awarded the title of professor . From 1955 to 1957, at the same time as the head of the department, he was the dean of the medical faculty of the ChMI, and during 1957-1962 V.S. Sokol held the post of vice-rector of the Chernivtsi Medical Institute for scientific and educational work, at the same time, from 1955 to 1962 - the post of rector of the People’s University in Chernivtsi .

From August 1962 and for the next 27 years, Professor A.S. Sokol headed the department of infectious diseases of the Kiev Medical Institute . During 1966-1973, she worked as vice-rector of the institute for scientific work. During the 1970-1990s, with her inherent amazing energy, she chaired the Ukrainian Society of Infectious Diseases. V.S.Sokol paid much attention to the training of highly qualified scientific and pedagogical personnel. Pupils V. S. Sokol not only replenished the staff of the department at KMI, but also worked in almost all regions of Ukraine and even abroad.

Leaving the post of head of the department in 1989, Alexandra Semyonovna continued to work as a professor consultant. She prepared 6 doctors and 34 candidates of medical sciences. She wrote 158 scientific works, including 8 monographs, she had 3 copyright certificates of the USSR.

The famous writer and diplomat, professor, doctor of medical sciences Yuri Shcherbak remembered A. S. Sokol with respect and warmth in his novel Causes and Consequences.

Died of a prolonged serious illness in Kiev on June 3, 2001 . She was buried at home, in the village of Rogozov, Borispol district, Kiev region .

In 1983, she was awarded the title of Honored Worker of Science and Technology of Ukraine . She was awarded the Honorary Honor of the President of Ukraine (1991), the Certificate of Honor of the Ministry of Health of Ukraine (1999).
