History

In 1863, a meeting of the Construction Committee was held in conjunction with members of the Jewish Prayer School No. 1 on the construction of the Brodsky Synagogue [3]. Plans for the building, unfortunately, have not been preserved. [4] it follows that prior to the construction of the Brodsky Synagogue building, prayer school No. 1 was located in the house of Ksenis: “All the people from the Jewish community in Odessa gathered here. Their school is in a rented house, but it’s deliberately arranged. The hall is quite extensive, it also has gallery for women ... Here, to the credit of the Jewish population, the first time a choir of chanting was opened for worship under the direction of the cantor. [5] The entire list of synagogues for 1859 also includes the Brodsky synagogue as a prayer house for the most enlightened Jews since 1820 and rasp Proposition on the Italian street, in the house K.Paludova - the former home of Ksenisa [6] .

In 1925, the building of the Brodsky Synagogue was handed over to the Jewish Workers' Club on the basis of decisions of the All-Ukrainian Central Executive Committee of the Ukrainian SSR and the Odessa Provincial Executive Committee, as well as decisions of general meetings of workers and employees of enterprises in Odessa. In 1929, the building was transferred to the club shoe factory [7] .

By the decision of the Odessa City Council on June 20, 1944, the building of the former Brodsky Synagogue was transferred to the Odessa Regional Archive, the State Archives of Odessa Region [8] .
