Galina Lvovna Petrashevich (March 10 ( 23 ), 1903 , Dubova - June 7, 1999 ) - Soviet and Ukrainian sculptor , People's Artist of the Ukrainian SSR ( 1964 ), one of the founders of the Union of Artists of Ukraine , mother of the sculptor Oksana Suprun .

She was born on March 10 ( March 23 ), 1903, in the village of Dubova (now Uman district of Cherkasy region ) in the family of a postal employee. After graduating from the Uman Gymnasium in 1920-1923 , she studied at the Uman Art and Decorative Studio. She graduated from the sculpture faculty of the Institute of Plastic Arts (she studied 1925 - 1930 with Max Gelman , Bernard Kratka and Ivan Severa, Konstantin Yeleva). After the institute, she worked in the field of easel sculpture.

The first works were:

  • project of a monument to the heroes of the revolution in Kiev (1927);
  • Monument to N. M. Kotsyubinsky for Chernigov (1929);
  • a monument to F. G. Yanovsky (1929; won first place in a professional competition);
  • Monument on the grave of the poetess Lesya Ukrainka at the Baykovsky cemetery in Kiev (1939).

One of the first recreated the image of a young Shevchenko .

  • republican since 1927 ;
  • All-Union 1938 ;
  • foreign since 1955 ;
  • personal:
    • Moscow in 1959 ;
    • Kiev in 1960 .

Member of the CPSU (since 1944 ).

Died June 7, 1999 . She was buried in Kiev at the Lukyanovsky cemetery (plot number 27, row 8, place 39) next to her mother and brother. A cement monument is a sculpture of a woman on the grave (author's work by G. Petrashevich).
