Biography
Born on October 21 ( November 2 ), 1887 in Lugansk .
He graduated from Kharkov University . In 1915 - 1930, he was a lecturer at the Kharkov Forestry and Agricultural Institute (since 1920 - professor ); since 1934 , he worked at the Hydrobiological Station in Kiev , which was transformed in 1939 into the Institute of Hydrobiology of the Academy of Sciences of the Ukrainian SSR. Jacob Roll was its first director from 1940 to 1959 and at the same time a professor at the Kiev Forestry Institute and Kiev University .
He died on November 3, 1961 . He was buried in Kiev at the Lukyanovsky cemetery (station number 17).
Scientific Activities
Published over 80 papers; investigated the flora of freshwater algae and phytoplankton of the rivers of Ukraine. He was also engaged in the development of methods for predicting the biological regime of the newly created reservoirs.
