Scott Yanov ( born Scott Yanoff ) is an American information technology specialist. He gained universal fame at the initial stage of the development of the Internet as the compiler of the “ Janoff List ” (“List of Internet capabilities”). By the mid-1990s, with the advent of convenient search engines, the value of the list quickly fell and his support for Janov was discontinued. Nevertheless, years later, this phenomenon of the enormous popularity and rapid oblivion of various resources in the period of the development of the Internet continues to attract the attention of researchers [1] [2] [3] .

Biography
Born October 20, 1969 in , Wisconsin . Paternal is a descendant of immigrants from the Ukraine , who arrived at the end of the XIX century and originally recorded as Yanofsky.
In 1988 he graduated from Nicolet High School [4] and entered the computer science department of the . In September 1991, Yanov collected a list of six resources that he found particularly useful or interesting in his own acquaintance with the Internet. He shared this list in the alt.bbs.internet and news.answers newsgroups. The list immediately gained popularity, sold out to other groups, and Yanov himself received many recommendations for including other resources in the list. These events prompted Yanov to the idea of regular releases of updated and expanded versions of the list. Formally, it was called “Special internet services”, later “Special internet connections”, but in the network environment it was simply known as “The Yanoff List” (“Yanov's List”) [5] .
With the exponential development of the Internet in the 1990s, primarily the World Wide Web , as well as with the advent of specialized cataloging and search resources, the relevance of the Janov List was rapidly declining. Its last update was released in May 1995, after which it came out of wide use.
In the future, Scott Yanov continued to work in the field of information technology, but during the period of the “ dotcom bubble ” and later no significant events were associated with his name. He worked as a programmer, then as IT manager at the now closed Strong Capital Management company, then as director of information security at the Northwestern Mutual investment fund.
