The case of persons accused of having relations with London propagandists (1862–1865) is one of the largest political processes of the 1960s in the Russian Empire .
Content
Progress
The trial lasted almost three years: from July 7, 1862 to April 27, 1865 . In the process, there were more than 70 people: the central figure was N. A. Serno-Solovievich . The main charges against the arrested were cooperation with A. I. Herzen and N. P. Ogarev , as well as assistance to B. I. Kelsiev during his illegal visit to Moscow and St. Petersburg in March-April 1862 [1] [2] .
Results
The process itself and the subsequent convictions snatched N. A. Serno-Solovievich from the ranks of the “ Earth and Freedom ” leaders. Irrevocable damage was inflicted to Herzen and Ogarev's conspiratorial ties with Russia, which significantly complicated the distribution of illegal editions of the Free Russian printing house (this taking into account the general decline in revolutionary sentiment in the Empire). According to Soviet sources, the process itself testified to the transition of tsarism to terror against revolutionary forces [1] .
