Biography
Pete was born December 15, 1952 in Berkel en Rodenreis , South Holland [4] .
P. Rietveld received his secondary education at the Reformed Lyceum in Rotterdam , where he studied in 1965-1970, and received a Master of Science in Econometrics after studying at Erasmus University of Rotterdam in 1970-1975. In 1980, he was awarded a doctorate at the Free University of Amsterdam for defending a dissertation on the topic “Multi-objective decision methods and regional planning” [5] .
Teaching began as a scientific assistant in economics at the University of Rotterdam Erasmus in 1972-1975, after receiving a master's degree, he became assistant professor of regional economics at the Free University of Amsterdam in 1975-1983. In 1980-1981, he was also a research fellow at the Regional Development Group of the International Institute for Applied Systems Analysis in Laxenburg , Austria . He was the coordinator of research at the Faculty of Economics of the Christian University of Satya-Wakan in 1983-1986. Then he was an associate professor of regional economics in 1986-1990, and in 1990-2013 he was a full professor of transport economics at the Free University of Amsterdam. In 1998-2003, he was the director of research at the faculty of economics and business administration, and in 2002-2013, the head of the department of regional and spatial economics at the Free University of Amsterdam [5] .
Pete Rietveld was a member of the European Academy , a member and chairman in 1994-1996 of the International Association of Regional Science , an employee of the Tinbergen Institute , chairman of the European Network Transport and Communications since 2001, and a member of the editorial board of the journal Annals of Regional Science since 1992 and the International Regional Science Review since 1995, the journal Transportation Research Part D: Transport and Environment since 1996 and the journal Bulletin of Indonesian Economic Studies since 1996, the Tijdschrift Vervoerwetenschap since 1996 and the European Review Infrastructure Research ”since 2000 [6] [4] .
Memory
Since 2014, the Amsterdam Free University has established the Pete Rietveld Scholarship (full cost of living and tuition) for the best student from a developing country [6] .

For his achievements in the field of economics, he was awarded a number of awards [7] :
