Story

Paul Kersey lives with his wife Lucy and daughter student Jordan. He works as a surgeon in a Chicago hospital. During lunch, Paul gives the keys to his car to a hotel clerk, Miguel, who secretly takes pictures of his home address from the screen of the navigation system. After some time, when Paul is late at work, three masked men break into Kearcy's house. Bandits shoot at Jordan and Lucy. While in the hospital, Paul finds out that his wife is dead and his daughter fell into a coma.

Investigation of this case is entrusted to police detective Kevin Raines. Soon, Paul begins to get angry that there is no progress in his case. Once, a wounded gang member is brought to the hospital where Paul works. His gun falls from the gurney. Paul steals this weapon, and then learns how to handle it properly. In the end, it all turns out that Paul uses this gun to prevent theft of the car. The video of this incident instantly gains an incredible amount of views. Gender is given the nickname Reaper.

Soon after, Miguel was brought to the hospital unconscious. Paul recognizes his stolen watch on his wrist. He tells the doctor to defibrillate Miguel’s heart three times and thereby kills him. Paul picks up Miguel’s phone and there he finds information on a liquor store in which, as he understands, thieves sell stolen goods.

Paul goes to the store, where he kills his owner (the buyer of stolen goods) and another member of the gang nicknamed Pisces, and then follows the second bandit - Joe. After much torture, Kersey also kills him.

Paul gets the news from the hospital - Jordan woke up.

A week later, Paul takes Jordan from the hospital home. Meanwhile, the leader of the gang Knox, whose people were destroyed by Kersey, bursts into the surgeon's home. However, Kersey predicts his actions and deals with two thugs, after which he kills the leader himself.

The police are coming home to Paul. Detective Raines realizes that Paul is the same Reaper. However, Raines pretends to believe in his version of what happened, as he is inwardly glad that justice has triumphed.

At the end of the film, they show Paul driving Jordan to the university. When his daughter leaves, Paul notices a man who steals a bag. Paul shouts to the thief and points his fingers folded in the form of a pistol.

Production

The development of the film began in 2006, when Sylvester Stallone announced that he would remove and play a major role in the remake of the 1974 film of the same name by Michael Winner. He stated: “Instead of being an architect, I chose for the character the role of a policeman who is incredibly successful without using a gun in his work. Therefore, when his family is attacked, he must solve the dilemma whether to carry out revenge or not ” [3] [4] . On December 20, 2006, Stallone announced that he would not remove the remake because of “creative differences” [3] .

At the end of January 2012, it was announced that the film was under development, and Joe Carnahan would be the director and screenwriter [5] . Nevertheless, Karnakhan left the post of director in 2013.

After four years of development, in March 2016, Paramount Pictures and Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer Studios announced that Aharon Keschales and Navot Papushado were chosen as directors and Bruce Willis will play the main role [6] . In May, Keshales and Papushado left the project because the studios did not allow them to rewrite the script. In June, the director's post was taken by Eli Roth [7] . On August 25, 2016, the cast joined Vincent D'Onofrio , as the brother of Paul Kersey, and Dean Norris , as Detective Raines. [8] On October 7, Kimberly Elise was selected for the role of Detective Jackson, and Camille Morron for the role of Jordan Kearsey [9] . On October 17, Ronnie Jean Blevins joined the film. [10]
