Biography
After graduating from law school at the University of Neapolitan, he worked with a degree in Southern Italy.
Politically out of the youth wing of the Catholic action , was a member of the Popular Party since 1919. A year later he became secretary of the provincial labor association of Salerno.
During the period of the fascist dictatorship, he worked in various Catholic political organizations, was president of the diocesan administration of Castellamare di Stabia.
In January 1944, he joined the National Liberation Committee in Bari, and then became one of the leaders of the Christian Democratic Party in southern Italy, in 1946 he joined the National Council and the Central Executive Council of the party.
From 1948 to 1976 elected in the Italian Senate.
Repeatedly held positions in the Council of Ministers of Italy:
- 1949-1950 - Deputy Minister of the Treasury,
- 1950 - Deputy Minister of Budget,
- 1951-1953 - Deputy Minister of the Treasury,
- 1953 - Minister of Industry and Trade,
- 1953—1956 - Minister of Treasury,
- 1957-1958 - Minister of Industry and Trade.
He was also in senior positions in the Senate:
- 1958-1960 - Chairman of the Standing Committee on Industry, Domestic and Foreign Trade and Tourism,
- 1960-1968 (with a short break) - chairman of the CDA faction,
- 1962-1963 - Chairman of the Standing Committee on International Affairs.
Then he again held leading positions in the government of Italy:
- 1968-1970 - Minister of Justice and Mercy,
- 1970-1972 - Minister of Industry, Commerce and Crafts
- 1973-1974 - Minister without portfolio, responsible for the organization of public administration.
His son, Antonio Gava , was elected to the Chamber of Deputies and held ministerial posts in the government of the country.
