Formation history

The brigade was formed in the Kiev Special Military District on the basis of the 211st rifle division in May 1941.

The fighting period: July 11 - November 19, 1941 [1] .

The 5th Airborne Brigade of Colonel Alexander Ilyich Rodimtsev was deployed on the night of August 7, 1941 to the direction of the main attack of the German troops advancing on Kiev . A counter-attack conducted by the brigade allowed for some time to stabilize the situation. [2]

On August 10, 1941, a counterattack of the Soviet troops began on the southern face of the KiUR. The 5th Airborne Brigade fought in the forest near the state farm Feofania.
