Biography

Born on September 1, 1936 in the village of Shevnino, Urzhumsky District, Kirov Region.

In 1959 he graduated from the Geological Department of Perm State University (PSU) with a degree in geophysical methods of prospecting and exploration of minerals. From 1959 to 1962 he worked as an engineer and later as head of the seismic party of Permneftegeofizika trust. Since 1964 he worked at PSU as an assistant, senior lecturer, assistant professor of the Department of Geophysics. In 1966 he defended his thesis on the topic “Search for zones of pinch-out and facies replacement of layers by the method of reflected waves”. From 1966 to 1971 he worked as an assistant professor at the Department of Geophysics, Perm State Niversitet.

Since 1970, the activities of Yuri Byakov has been associated with marine geophysics. In 1970-1982 he worked in Riga , the Latvian SSR , reaching the post of Deputy Director for Science at the All-Union Scientific Research Institute of Marine Geology and Geophysics. In 1983-2005, he worked at the Research and Design Institute of Geophysical Methods of Ocean Exploration in Gelendzhik , Krasnodar Territory , moving from the head of the seismic exploration department to the director of the institute. He participated in the creation of a number of non-governmental organizations for scientific and technical cooperation with the CMEA countries , in particular the Intermorgeo project.

From 1995 to 2009, Yuri Alekseevich Byakov took part in the creation and leadership of the branch of the Southern Federal University in Gelendzhik. He is the chairman of the Krasnodar Regional Branch of the Euro-Asian Geophysical Society (EAGO) [1] . For 15 years he led the society " Knowledge " in Gelendzhik.

Yu. A. Byakov made a great contribution to the development of marine geophysics; he is the author of 14 inventions, including two patents ; more than 150 publications, among them five monographs . It is included in the encyclopedic collection "Geophysics of Russia" (2005). He has letters from the Ministry of Geology of the USSR, thanks from the Governor of the Krasnodar Territory A. Tkachev (2004), the Head of the City of Gelendzhik S. P. Ozerov (2005) and the Head of the Administration of the City of Gelendzhik V. A. Khrestin (2006). He was awarded the silver medal of the Exhibition of Economic Achievements of the USSR , the Veteran of Labor and the 300th Anniversary of the Russian Navy medals. [2]
