Teresa Behr ( German: Therese Behr-Schnabel ; September 14, 1876 , Stuttgart - January 30, 1959 , Lugano ) - German singer ( contralto ). The wife (since 1905 ) of pianist Arthur Schnabel , mother of pianist Karl Ulrich Schnabel and actor Stefan Schnabel .

She studied in Frankfurt with Julius Stockhausen , in Cologne with Franz Wülner , in Berlin with Ethelka Gerster . In 1899 , she made her successful debut in Berlin, performing chamber vocal repertoire accompanied by pianist Alfred Reisenauer . Later she performed in the ensemble with her husband (and later with her son), becoming famous before the First World War by performing the German song repertoire, from Schubert to Hugo Wolf (and Schnabel’s own compositions written especially for her). In the 1930s lived with her husband in England and Italy, since 1939 in the USA.
