History
Al-Farabi Avenue began to form after the Great Patriotic War, as the southern border of the city [1]
Name Origin
It was originally called Vodozabornaya Street. In April 1975, it was renamed in honor of the great scientist and encyclopedist, an outstanding thinker, philosopher Al-Farabi [2] .
Points of Interest
Adjacent to the avenue: microdistricts Orbit-2-4 and Kazakhfilm; Park of the First President , the Main Botanical Garden of the Republic , Institute of Zoology of the Ministry of Education and Science of the Republic of Kazakhstan , Kazakhfilm film studio. Earlier, before the beginning of the 2000s, vast areas of the foothills occupied by the Aporta apple orchards were located above the avenue, now almost all of them are sold and built up with IZHS / commercial facilities.
Gardening and Landscaping
In the Soviet years, the avenue was one of the most beautiful and landscaped highways of the city [1] .
In Soviet times, the street was reconstructed and landscaped, planted on both sides of the carriageway with deciduous trees such as poplar and elm. The dividing strip was planted with hawthorn and pine. The main irrigation irrigation channels were laid, in which water from the Bolshaya Almatinka and Esentai rivers daily was let in daily [1] .
Since the mid-2000s, the avenue has repeatedly been and continues to undergo massive tree felling throughout its entire length in order to expand the roadway, build interchanges, review and build commercial establishments [3] [4] [5] .
Dividing Strip
Almost all trees planted in the 1980s were cut down on the dividing strip of Al-Farabi Avenue. Coniferous pines died in the second half of the 2000s, unable to withstand the increased gas pollution and increased air temperature in recent decades. The only surviving gas-resistant hawthorn shrubs were uprooted from the dividing strip. Since 2006, akimat of the city on the dividing strip repeatedly planted pine and spruce, billions of budget funds were spent. As a result, conifers died, if not in the first year, then in the following. Scientists have repeatedly stated that conifers do not grow with a large gas contamination and high temperature, which today takes place in the city of Almaty. However, the arguments of scientists were ignored by the Almaty authorities, the planting of expensive coniferous plantations on Al-Farabi Ave. is carried out almost annually, the dead coniferous seedlings are replaced by new coniferous seedlings and so on in a circle until their next death.
In 2019, the akimat again landed on the dividing strip another batch of expensive conifers, consisting of ordinary pines and spruces, and a small number of chestnuts [6] .
Present
Al-Farabi Avenue, as before, is a major highway for vehicles traveling in the eastern and western directions in the southern part of Almaty. In connection with the construction of the Eastern Bypass Road, its further punching was carried out eastward.
In the last 10 years, road avenues have been built on the avenue at the intersection with Dostyk Ave., Nazarbayev Ave., Seifullina Ave., Zharokova, st. Rozybakiev and st. Dulati / Navoi, the underground junction at the Esentai Towers [7] . Business centers and high-rise housing were built: Nurlytau, Esentai Towers, etc. [8] . In particular, from the Nurly-Tau business center finished with glass in 2016, 2 cases of glass falling from the upper floors were recorded [9] [10] [ significance of fact? ]
