Biography

After graduating from Sofia University , he became a certified chemist, but did not work by profession. In 1952 he graduated from the State Music Academy in Sofia with Veselin Stoyanov (composition) and Asen Dimitrov (conducting), and in 1952-1954 he improved his studies at the graduate school of the Moscow Conservatory under the direction of Sergey Skrebkov (polyphony and theory of music) and Aram Khachaturian (composition). In 1946-1952 - conductor of the Ensemble of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Bulgaria. In 1954-1978 (with a break in 1962-1975) - Director of the Sofia Folk Opera . In 1969-1972 - Deputy Chairman of the Committee for Culture and Arts. In 1972-1980 - Chairman of the Union of Bulgarian Composers. He wrote music for performances, films and radio shows. The author of songs, including choral (about 1000 in total), and arrangements of folk songs, in particular, recorded by him in the Rhodopes. In 1958-1960 he taught polyphony at the Bulgarian Conservatory. Member of the BKP since 1946.
