The Legend of Kolovrat

XIII century . For almost a hundred years, Russia fell apart into separate principalities , continuously at odds with each other.

" Kolovrat " was "born" (that is, it received its nickname ) in 1223 , when the Battle of Kalka took place and the Mongols from the south first entered the lands of Russian principalities . Then, during the attack of the Mongol ambush, young Yevpatiy was seriously wounded and began to suffer from memory loss .

In 1237, the Mongol army, headed by the grandson of Genghis Khan Batu (called the “Khan” in the film) again approached the Russian principalities, now from the east . When they learned of his approach in Ryazan , the Prince's foreman Yevpatiy Kolovrat was sent to the horde along with Prince Fedor for negotiations. It was not possible to agree. Fyodor was killed by the Mongols, but Evpatiy Kolovrat and several other soldiers managed to escape the battle, killing several Mongols. When they were able to return to Ryazan, the city was already burned by Batu . Evpatiy Kolovrat gathered a squad of avengers and set the task to detain the Mongol army, hoping that the neighboring Russian princes would be able to gather forces for joint resistance. But help did not come from the neighbors, although Yevpatiy Kolovrat and his fighters managed to draw the forces of the entire Mongolian army and destroy many soldiers by several impudent raids.

As a result, Evpatiy Kolovrat and his comrades hold the defense on a fortified hill, he even kills the Mongol military commander Khostovrul. Most of the Ryazans die in close combat, and the rest - under fire from vices (stone-throwing machines) . Including killing and Kolovrat. Batu, stunned by what he saw, orders to bury him like a batyr, having built a mound for him. Only the warrior Karkun, who was entrusted with Evpathy before the battle with the task of taking the children of the dead Ryazan along the river to a safe place, can be saved.

1242 year . In the final of the film, five years after the feat of the squad of Evpatiy Kolovrat, Karkun, as part of the united Novgorod - Vladimir army, goes to Lake Peipsi to fight against the German knights . Before the battle, the soldiers inspire themselves with memories of the feat of Eupathius Kolovrat and his comrades.

Initially, Oleg Stepchenko was appointed the director of the film, but he turned out to be busy on the project " Wii 2: Travel to China ", so he had to look for a replacement, the release dates of the film changed because of this ^[7] .

The authors of the film decided to abandon the reconstruction of historical events of the thirteenth century and preferred to create a fairy-tale world with good and bad characters ^[8] . Part of the filming took place at the ZIL plant ^[9] , where the largest shooting pavilion in Europe ^{[10] was built} .

According to Fayziev, the filmmakers tried to focus not on historical details, but on the feelings and feelings of people who make an ordinary person a hero who can accomplish a feat ^[11] .

The main road post studio is responsible for the visual effects of the film. It created special effects for the films “ Duelist ”, “ Ghost ”, “ Stalingrad ” ^[12] . The soundtrack of the film was the song “Fine Day to Die” (A Fine Morning to Die), which was shot by Serge Tankian and IOWA soloist Ekaterina Ivanchikova ^{[17] [18]} .

The rights to the movie were sold in the United States (Well Go USA), German-speaking countries (Splendid), French-speaking countries (Acteurs Auteurs Associes), Spain (Mediaset) and Mongolia (Digital Contents).
