Born in Strasbourg to the family of Ephraim Loeb (1813–1874) and Adele Blum (1823–1915). He performed as part of a piano trio with Isidor Philippe and Henri Berthelier , as part of this ensemble, in particular, became the first performer of the Second Piano Trio by Camille Saint-Saens (1892) [2] . He also participated in chamber ensembles with wind instruments under the direction of Paul Taffanel . In 1883, together with the author, he became the first performer of the Elegy, Gabriel Fauré (in the original edition for cello and piano), which is dedicated to him. In 1905, together with Louis Diemer, he became the first performer of the sonata for cello and piano by Theodore Dubois ; in 1907, along with the author, sonatas for cello and piano by Charles-Marie Widor .

Since 1900 professor of the Paris Conservatory ; among his students, in particular, Andre Navarre , worked with Loeb and Maurice Marechal . Author of various didactic compositions for his instrument.
