Kazakevich, Vladislav Valentinovich

Vladislav Kazakevich was born on December 17, 1998 in the city of Minsk ^[2] . Parents - Valentin and Olga Kazakevich (later changed her name to Mozheiko ^[3] ), a sister was also brought up in the family. According to media reports, the family was wealthy, but it was difficult to call it prosperous: the press reported that the teenager’s mother and sister lived abroad, his father lived in the Belarusian capital, but Vladislav lived in a separate apartment from 15 years old ^{[2] [4]} . Subsequently, Olga Mozheiko denied this information, although confirming that in 2014 she married in Germany and periodically left Belarus ^[3] . “We did not live separately. He lived either with me, or with my sister, or with my grandfather. One remained for several days, ”Olga Kazakevich subsequently denied this information, also assuring that her son never wanted to live with his father ^[5] .

Until the sixth grade, Vlad studied at Minsk gymnasium No. 23, where he was described as a shy and secretive child, who had almost no friends ^[3] . According to Valentin Kazakevich, the boy had to be transferred to another educational institution because of a conflict with the class teacher. “She can be said to have poisoned him. And we were always called to the director, we even wanted to write a statement on her. However, then they decided to neither pull themselves nor pull her and transferred to another school, ”he said ^[6] .

At a new place of study, in gymnasium No. 6, teachers rated him as a kind, hardworking, and responsive teenager, a sanguine person with good abilities and high self-esteem. “The guy is well developed. The relations with peers are friendly, with teachers - good, ”was indicated in the description drawn up in 2013 for presentation to the military commissariat. In 2014, Vladislav made several suicide attempts. In October, a teenager tried to poison himself with carbon monoxide in a garage, where his mother found him. By that time, the teenager’s parents were looking for him and even informed the law enforcement authorities about his disappearance, since shortly before that he had sent strange text to the class teacher ^[3] . Kazakevich also tried to hang himself twice and attempted to jump from the 24th floor of a multi-storey building ^[3] . Remembering these events, Vladislav claimed that he did not remember what caused these attempts, saying that he was then an “idiot” ^[2] .

At the insistence of law enforcement officials, the teenager was admitted to the Republican Clinical Psychiatric Hospital in Novinki ^[3] . Specialists in the hospital diagnosed schizotypal disorder in Vladislav. The head of the department where Kazakevich was treated, Andrei Tretyak later told the court that there were no global problems that could force the young man to commit suicide. “Kazakevich said that he used to help others, but then something in him changed, and he became different. His mother was a believer, and tried to captivate him. But he replied that he did not like when people go to church. He likes it when churches are burned, ”he testified. According to Tretyak, while he was in the hospital, Vlad reconciled with his mother, who visited the department every day, began to make plans for the future, “suicidal ideas stopped him” ^[3] .

After discharge, Vlad was registered at a psychiatric clinic, and was also transferred to another educational institution. “Consisted a little over a year. It annoyed me to go there, I thought it was unnecessary. I have been over a year. It turned out that you can write a statement and deregister. And in the beginning of 2016 I starred, ”he said. In 2016, Kazakevich entered the International University of IITS with a degree in international law, gaining 255 points upon admission. Almost from the very beginning of the school year, Vladislav began to skip classes: the teenager had 78 hours of passes, the deputy dean invited him to the dean to no avail and tried to reach his mother, Olga Mozheiko ^[3] . “I had problems with my appearance and skin. I didn’t want to come to classes because of acne. He was shy of his appearance, ”Kazakevich later explained ^[3] .

According to the investigation, at about 17:27, a young man entered the building of the Minsk New Europe shopping center located on Surganova Street ( Sovetsky District ), carrying an ax and a chainsaw in a guitar case ^[7] . Once inside, he started a saw and inflicted grievous bodily harm to a woman born in 1973, who died as a result ^[4] .

Mortally wounding the first victim, the attacker stabbed the woman who was born in 1970 with an ax, as well as minor injuries to the cleaning lady of the shopping center ^[4] . At 17:35, police officers arrived at the scene. With the help of the guards and the employees of the shopping complex, the police managed to neutralize and detain the attacker ^[4] .

According to eyewitnesses: “When the attacker moved along the corridors of the center, he was constantly pursued by 5 to 15 people who tried to stop him - they threw bins and chairs at him. I would like to express my gratitude to those people who tried to detain him , ”said Alexey Volkov, First Deputy Chairman of the Investigative Committee, at a press conference. A criminal case was instituted against Kazakevich on the grounds of a crime under Part 1 of Article 139 (“aggravated murder”) of the Criminal Code of the Republic of Belarus. On October 20, 2016, the suspect was assigned a psychological - psychiatric examination. Which took place in stationary conditions from a commission consisting of the most experienced psychiatrists and psychologists. In order to determine the sanity of the suspect. On November 21, the examination was extended. On December 29, 2016, the criminal investigation was completed. The actions of the accused qualified under Part 1 of Art. 13 and h. 2 Article 139 (preparation for the killing of two or more persons), part 1 of article 14 and h. 2 Article 139 (attempted murder of two or more persons), part 2 of article 139 (murder committed with particular cruelty from hooligan motives), part 1 of article 339 (hooliganism). The criminal case was referred to the prosecutor for trial.

On February 20, 2017, the trial of the attack on the New Europe shopping center, accused Vladislav Kazakevich, began. The accused pleaded guilty, saying that he regrets that the death penalty cannot be applied to him. And also that he will continue to kill people after he is released. He was sentenced to 15 years in prison and also to payment of more than 220,000 rubles in favor of all victims. ^[ten]

In June 2017, the Supreme Court of Belarus examined the complaint against the sentence to Kazakevich: the defendant's lawyer demanded that Kazakevich be sent again for a medical examination. The court rejected the petition, the sentence remained unchanged ^[11] .

According to the administration of the correctional colony No. 17 of the city of Shklov , where Kazakevich was serving his sentence, from the first days he fell into the category of problem prisoners by October 2017, had 17 disciplinary sanctions, and served more than 170 days in a punishment cell . On October 12, 2017, he attacked with sharpening (according to another version, with a knife) two employees of the IC.
