Steam Man on the Prairies

The Steam Man of the Prairies is the work of Edward Ellis , the first American science fiction boulevard novel [1] , the prototype of a series of books about Frank Reed . One of the first examples of the Edisonada genre [2] , which spurred its development. Ellis was a prolific writer of the 19th century, better known as a historian and biographer, was the source of the first stories about pioneers pioneers in the style of J. Cooper . This novel may have been inspired by a steam-powered robot designed by American inventor Zadok Dederic [3] . The novel has survived six reprints from 1868 to 1904 [4] . A copy of the first edition of 1868 is kept at the Rosenbach Museum and Library in Philadelphia [5] .
