“The Dark Tower” ( Eng. The Dark Tower ) is an American fantasy western of Danish director Nikolai Arsel based on the eponymous series of novels by Stephen King . The world premiere of the film was originally scheduled for February 17, 2017 [4] , but then the studio postponed the premiere of the film on July 28, 2017 [5] , and later on August 3, 2017 [6] .

Content
Story
The 11-year-old boy Jake Chambers, who lives in New York of our time, sees in a dream mysterious visions in which the Dark Tower, the Shooter and the Man in black are present, and sketches them on paper. His parents believe that he is mentally ill, and are going to send him to the clinic. He escapes from the house and enters another world, passing through a magic portal in an abandoned house. In another world, he meets the last Gunner of Roland Diskain, who wants to kill the Man in Black, a powerful sorcerer known as Walter O'Dim. The man in black serves the Crimson King and wants to destroy the Dark Tower, the center of the universe that keeps the universe from darkness and destruction. In the Middle World, Roland and Jake face numerous dangers and monsters. Roland shows impressive mastery skills for his revolvers. Jake learns that he is the Shining One, that is, a person with extremely powerful telepathic abilities. He alone is able to destroy the Dark Tower. Walter wants to use Jake to destroy her. The boy falls into the hands of the tachins, who lead him to the Man in black at the base of the Telepath Destroyers in Algul Siento. However, Roland comes to the rescue and rescues Jake by killing the Man in Black in a fierce battle with his revolvers and destroying the telepath base. Roland offers Jake to go with him and become the new Shooter, which Jake gladly agrees to. They enter the building with the image of roses on the gate and go to the Middle World through the magical Door.

Production
Roland looks like a tall and lean broad-shouldered white middle-aged man with expressive features, black hair and blue eyes. His face is wrinkled and darkened by the sun. He wears a wide-brimmed hat, shirt, vest, faded jeans, low-heeled boots. He is an avid smoker with experience, but he can do without smoking without problems if he does not have tobacco. After a long conversation with Walter, his hair turned gray, and after the attack of lobsters on the coast, he lost his index and middle fingers on his right hand and his thumb on his right foot.
According to the newspaper Arguments and Facts , Stephen King sold the rights to the film adaptation of the book for 19 dollars and 19 cents [7] .
At various times, JJ Abrams , Brian Grazer , Akiva Goldsman , and Ron Howard [8] were considered as directors of the picture.
The leading roles were played by Russell Crowe , Liam Neeson , Javier Bardem , Christian Bale and Matthew McConaughey [9] [10] .

Criticism
The film received mostly negative reviews from film critics. On the Rotten Tomatoes website , its rating is 16% based on 239 reviews with an average score of 4.1 / 10 [12] . On the Metacritic website, the film has 34 points out of 100, based on 46 reviews [13] .

On May 3, 2017, the first trailer was released [14] . July 10 released the second trailer [15] .
